I first met John when he and Carol rented a camp from my parents at Stowe Bay. Carol and I would ride together up to Sunmount to visit our darling daughters. And now John has joined Carol, Lisa and our Angela up in heaven. His caring compassionate ways have been passed on to Brian to continue serving families in their times of need. We're sure being a funeral director is a difficult job, but John did it with grace and seeming ease. He always smiled and had a small joke to share. His quiet demeanor was appreciated at one's most difficult moments in life. We pray his family finds some comfort in knowing their Dad, husband, grandpa was a really good man who spent his life attempting to ease other's pain.
May he rest in peace with God.

We are deeply saddened by the news of John’s passing. We all have so many fond memories with him and all of you, be it in Witherbee, Norfolk or at the camp. Johnny was always so welcoming, generous, and a wonderful host. The video is a beautiful tribute to his life that was lived fully and well accomplished. It was obvious how much he loved his family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. Sending you love and virtual hugs from CT ❤️. We are all heartbroken over hearing about John’s passing. Our family grew to love John over the past seven years after moving in next door at Higley. He was the kindest soul who made each summer up at our camp that much more special. John’s neighborly kindness will never be forgotten and we will always cherish those days of just sitting and talking and sharing stories. May he Rest In Peace. - The Baloga family

My family will never forget how professional, comforting and caring Brian was to us when by brother passed away. He made certain our tragedy and trauma were as wrapped in kindness, compassion and care as possible. While I did not know his Father, I’m certain he instilled that in him and I’m also sure there are many, many families who feel the same. Rest In Peace.

Brian, Chris, Tom and the rest of John's family. As I read the instructions for leaving a condolence I saw that I could also leave a gesture. If John were next to me, I'm sure he would be encouraging me to leave something inappropriate with a snicker, a giggle and a laugh and chuckle which would turn his face red. So many memories flood my mind from working funerals with him while in school with Tom and so many memories when we weren't. Among the fondest were those of just hanging out and visiting with him when I'd come to Canton for and advisory board meeting. Also, who could forget the memorable time golfing at Chip's where we went 4-wheeling with the golf cart into the woods...or when we went bullhead fishing and he told me I didn't need a license because we fished at night...and sure as hell, the game warden appeared and good old Schmidty got a ticket for fishing without a license. I still can see he doubled over as he couldn't stop laughing when the warden left. Such a kind soul and generous with his time, allowing many students to come and work funerals on weekends and assist with removals on occasion but also, being a mentor for the benefits of a kind, gentle demeanor and a genuine desire to help a family going through a painful time in their life. I'll always thank him for introducing me to manhattans, and for being such a great friend, an awesome mentor and teacher and a wonderful professional colleague. Rest in peace Johnny, bask in the glory of being reunited with Carol, Lisa and with your parents. And, tell Monica...she still made the best German Chocolate Cake EVER!!!!
