Wayne lived at the end of our (Pine) St. when we were kids, so I have known him a long time. He was good friends with my brother, Dick.
In the past many years, whenever I was back in Norwood, if Laura and Wayne were having a family get-together - always with a splendid meal - I was welcome to join them. Wayne was a really good cook. . . and not just with the barbecue grill. He made delicious deviled eggs. It was obvious for many years that Wayne and Dick continued to be good friends as well as neighbors. Often whenever Dick was out working in his garden or Wayne was out in his garage or garden, they would end up sitting in lawn chairs beside Dick's house or on Wayne's back porch...always with Herkie right beside them. Herkie was a great dog. Especially in the last few years before Dick passed away, after he had suffered several strokes, Wayne's kindness shone in the help he gave Dick - plowing his driveway & sidewalk, mowing his lawn, picking up something for him at the store. When Dick had his first stroke, he was talking with me on the phone. But I could tell by his speech that he was having or had just had a stroke. So I called Wayne and asked him to go over to Dick's and check on him. Wayne took him to the hospital.
I pray for Laura, Melissa, Jennifer, Tracy and Earl - that the "Father of compassion and the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3) will comfort and encourage them and give them peace.
