To the family
Was so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. It was always a joy to visit with him at Hometown with the group, when I would visit my daughter Patti Dean. I have made a donation to Norwood Kiwanis in his memory.

Your Mom and Dad extended credit to my parents in the 60’s so they could feed us five children. Swans grocery store became a lifeblood to our family of 7 for over a year or so until whatever caused my parents to get so behind was resolved. I would go with my Mom every two weeks to buy our groceries on credit as Mom paid for the last two weeks worth. Your Dad always threw in a 6 pack of soda when we came in to pay and then bought more on credit. We never had soda until that year. I just wanted to let you know how wonderfully kind your folks were. May God bless you all with all their great qualities and may their memories be of solace.

As a part of my extended family Joe always treated us as if we were his own family. When my wife, Ann, and I came up to say goodbye to my father, Ted, Joe offered to put us up and gave us piece of mind that we had a place to stay and rest during a hard time. We will always hold Joe in our hearts.

To The Family,
If there was one person who was neat to talk to and to be around growing up, it was Joe. Whether we would talk about college hockey (St. Lawrence vs. Clarkson) or taking part in activities at St. Philip’s, Joe made those years a lot of fun.
I know many will miss both him and his personality, including yourselves. The years he spent with Kiwanis, the church, and Sandstone Reality for example shows you the character and the person that made Joe unique and loved by many. I know that’s something you all can be proud of. When I go back home, it will be different for me going down Prospect St. I’ll never forget Joe, nor will I forget the impact he had on my life growing up as a kid.
I’ll be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers and wishing all of you God’s Blessings during this time.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Joe and Harriett while I was a student at SUNY Potsdam. I was active in our Circle K, and it was there that I was blessed with getting to know Joe. He lit up a room and brought so much wisdom to our college-age club. I am forever grateful for the lessons he taught me and how welcoming he and Harriett were to all of us college students looking to find our way in life.

The Family,
I took advantage of an opportunity a couple summers ago to attend a Sunday morning service at St. Philips Church in Norwood while on our yearly visit to the North Country. Joe and I knew each other immediately even after all these years. He insisted on my coming into coffee hour after service for additional chat time and to connect with others I had known growing up in the church. Such an enjoyable time but all too soon I had to leave.
We did have a wonderful chat catching up on many years. So glad I took advantage of the opportunity presented to me. My North Country memories certainly include the Swan family - not just church! May you all smile in your hearts with the cherished memories you each have. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers during the days ahead as you walk through this journey.
