NORFOLK -- In keeping with Ethel's wishes, there will be no services for 88 year old Ethel M. "Ettie" Darabon, a resident of 7 West Main Street, Norfolk. She passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Ethel is survived by her two nephews, Peter and Bobbi Jo Darabon, Norfolk and Dominic Zappia, Nebraska; her three nieces, Rickie Zappia, Norfolk, Nancy and Jeremiah Hammill, Winthrop, and Jodi Darabon and her companion Jack Gala, Potsdam, along with many great nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her two brothers, Alton "Peter" and Stephen Darabon and her four sisters, Irene Southworth, Mary "Dolly" Harris, Lauretta Radel, and Goldie "Cookie" Zappia.
Ethel was born in Norfolk, NY on May 8, 1930 to the late Stephen and Bernadine Robinson Darabon. After graduating high school, she worked for Bell Telephone and the Oval Wood Dish, both in Potsdam, and finally the Norfolk Paper Mill. Ethel volunteered at the Norfolk Hepburn Library, the Whistle Stop thrift store, and for the Comrades of Hope in Norfolk. She loved reading, jigsaw puzzles, and enjoyed being in her garden.
