NORWOOD—A Mass of Christian Burial for 89 year old Blanche M. Palmer, a resident of 8 Elm Street, Norwood for 65 years, will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Church in Norwood with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. Burial will be held in the Calvary Cemetery in Norwood. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Thursday from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Blanche passed away early Sunday morning, March 19, 2017 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a long illness.
Blanche is survived by three sons, Robert and Elaine Palmer, Nolensville, TN; William Palmer and Kay Walton, Canton; Brian Palmer, Amsterdam, NY; one grandson, Cory Palmer and a great-grandson, Aidan James Palmer; a brother, Roderick Martin, Norwood; a sister-in-law, Bea Martin, Norwood as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. Blanche was pre-deceased by her husband Rupert, a son John Henry Palmer passed away at infancy, a brother Everett Martin and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Martin.
Born in Norfolk, NY on April 12, 1927 to the late John and Laura Boardway Martin, Blanche graduated as Valedictorian from Norfolk High School in 1944. She married Rupert P. Palmer on August 3, 1946. Blanche was the original Clerk of the School Board at Norwood-Norfolk Central School. However, taking the minutes of the meetings was just one of her many duties. She was also the payroll officer, purchasing agent, Chief Fiscal Officer, Insurance Liaison, Budget Officer, Bond Writer and the School Tax Collector. Blanche retired in 1986 as the School Treasurer and she was respected and admired by her friends, co-workers and colleagues. Blanche was a community oriented person, spending her spare time helping others. She was a communicate of St. Andrew's Church, a past member of the Zonta Club and a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Blanche enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to lunch with friends at various places, spending time at camp and stamp collecting.
