RAYMONDVILLE—Services will be held privately for 56 year old Gilbert A. Benway, a resident of Raymondville, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 25 years, Beverly, Raymondville; a step-daughter, Jennifer Caldwell;his mother, Betty Backus Benway, Massena; his three brothers, Ronald and Elizabeth Casey, Louisville; Gary and Mary Casey, Raymondville; Gerald and Yvonne Benway, Norfolk; a sister, Marilyn and Charles LaDue, Norfolk as well as his nieces and nephews. Gilbert was pre-deceased by his father and a sister, Florence LaPoint. Born in Massena, NY on July 22, 1960 to Gerald Benway and Betty Backus, Gilbert married Beverly J. Roy on July 27, 1991. Gilbert worked for the Local Laborer Union in Massena, and was most recently employed by Perras Excavating in Massena. Gilbert had a love for farming, operating equipment and enjoyed his time in the woods hunting. He enjoyed life spending time with his family and friends and also enjoyed boxing.
