COLTON—Funeral Services for 83 year old Mark L. Jones, a resident of 74 Cottage Road, Colton, will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton with Deacon Patricia Lavine presiding. Burial will be held in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery following the service. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. Mr. Jones passed away late Sunday evening at his home.
Mark is survived by his two sons, Kevin Jones, LaFayette, and Brian Jones, Colton; his daughter, Michelle and David Everding, Fayetteville; his seven grandchildren, Evan Mark, Kendra, Austin, Alexander, McKenna, Haley and Ryan; a brother, Gilbert Jones, Ogdensburg and several nieces and nephews. Mark was pre-deceased by his wife, Patricia in December of 2007, two brothers, Phil and George and his four sisters, Agnes McLead, Mary Terrottelli, Florence Powers and Fran Mittelstaedt.
Born in Potsdam, NY on April 21, 1932 to the late Henry and Margaret Brouse Jones, Mark graduated from Potsdam High School and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence University respectively. He married the late Patricia Thomas on August 13, 1960. He started teaching at the Parishville High School and later taught at Norwood-Norfolk Central and at West Winfield High School. He later took a position at SUNY Morrisville as a Math Professor and taught there for over 25 years, retiring in 1990, earning the title of Professor Emeritus. Mark was especially proud of being a member of the First Potsdam High School Hockey Team, he headed the Youth Commission from 1972 – 1977 while he was at SUNY Morrisville and he was also proud that he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. While he was busy puttering around on Higley Flow, he also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations in Mark’s memory be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 6805 US Highway 11, Potsdam, NY 13676 or to the Pleasant Mound Cemetery Association, Box 182, Colton, NY 13625.
