NORWOODFuneral services for 89 year old Wallace B. LaPointe Jr., a resident of United Helpers Maplewood Campus, Canton, and formerly of Potsdam and Canton, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Church in Norwood with Rev. Andrew Amyot presiding. Burial will be held in St. Marys Cemetery, Potsdam. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mr. LaPointe passed away Friday morning at the Maplewood Campus.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary, Canton; a daughter, Lisa L. Billings, Colton and his two grandchildren, Haley and Elizabeth Billings. Wallace was pre-deceased by a brother Welby and a sister Betty Nelson.
Born in Potsdam, NY on August 2, 1925 to the late Wallace B. and Jennie Files LaPointe Sr., he graduated from High School and attended college and studied under Helen M. Hosmer. He married Mary Procida on October 20, 1952. Wallace retired from St. Lawrence University in Canton where he worked for 25 years as an office manager for the St. Lawrence and Brewer Bookstores. Previously, Wallace was the Student Activity Coordinator for Clarkson University in Potsdam and also worked for Careys Jewelry Store in Potsdam as well. He was a member of the Royal Iris Society and had a passion for gardening. Memorial Donations in Wallaces memory can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care or to a charity of ones choice.
