Gary,
We are so sorry for your loss. We know how much you loved your Mom and how well you took care of her needs and wants.
We hope you know how much we loved your Mom and we will miss her more than words can say.
Whether in person or on the phone, we always looked forward to long visits that were filled with who your Mom was, a special person full of heart for others, always looking for a way to further enrich others lives with knowledge of her, her family, her heritage and love for others.
We will never, never forget her.

From the moment I lost my grandmother Muriel Carpenter Gibson in 1985, Iona took on the role of both my great-aunt and my second grandmother. Her home was open to me for the next three decades, a warm place of love and laughter. Because of her recollections of needle-like precision, her precious family stories and photographs, and the skeletal family tree that she shared with me, I have since taken my own journey through time spanning more than four centuries of vast history and a rich heritage of which I am immensely proud and humbled. I will forever treasure the late-night chats we had at her kitchen table during my visits, right up to the last phone conversation we had following her 94th birthday this past July. I will deeply miss our talks about Clark Gable and Jean Harlow films, about our ancestry, and so many other things that we shared between us. There is a very large hole in my heart that her passing has left behind. I take great comfort in the knowledge that her sisters Muriel, Thelma, and Winona, her brothers Clyde, Vernon and Lyle, and her beloved husband Albert were all present to greet her when she left us, now free of the earthly bonds of age and discomfort. I will always be grateful for having her in my life she was, and will continue to be, a true example of what familial love is. I send heartfelt condolences and healing thoughts to her family, especially to my cousin Gary during this difficult time. I will carry her in my heart for the rest of my days.

Iona was my Great Aunt. She was my father Lyndon Gibson's Aunt and my Grandmother Muriel's sister. Iona was a wonderful kind hearted woman that always knew everything about anything and she was as sharp as a tack right up until the end. She was loved and lived a good life. Her memory will live on in our hearts. <3
Love, Jen

Dear Gary,
We are so saddened by the loss of our dear Aunt Iona. She was such a kind, loving, wonderful person. Iona became Jennifer's surrogate grandmother after Muriel died, and Jennifer remembers her with great fondness. We were all so impressed with how sharp she was, right up to the end, how well she always remembered everyones's birthdays and anniversaries, and how aware she was of what was going on in the community, country, and the world. We will truly miss her! Don't forget to call on us for anything you need!

Gary, We are so sorry to hear about Iona's death. She was always so positive and caring. It always amazed me how she kept up with all that was going on in the community. I felt so blessed that she was my neighbor, but more than that as I grew up on Ridge St. Now she is with Abby, walking about without effort and visiting with everyone. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
