NORFOLKFuneral services for 92 year old Frances M. Neer, 27 Furnace Street, Norfolk, will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding and Rev. Andrew Amyot and Rev. Msgr. Harry Snow concelebrating. Burial will be held in the Visitation Cemetery and following the services, there will be a Celebration of Life luncheon in the Parish Center. There will be no calling hours. Mrs. Neer passed away peacefully early Thursday, August 14, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. This was made possible by the guidance and support of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
She was born March 13, 1922 in Norfolk, NY and was salutatorian of her Norfolk High, Class of 1940. She worked at the Norfolk Post Office and the Norfolk Grade School. In 1974, she became the librarian at the Norfolk Hepburn Library where she inspired the love of reading to many people of all ages, retiring in 1986. She was a communicant of the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk, belonging to the Altar and Rosary Society. She was active in the Prayer Line and also was a member of the Norfolk American Legion Auxiliary.
She loved spending time with family, reading, watching birds, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. She married Andrew Neer, the love of her life on August 28, 1955 at the Church of the Visitation. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Christine and Allen Kelly, Madrid; Joan and Paul McGrath, Potsdam; Thomas Neer, Houston, TX; Kathy and James Maltby, Tall Timbers, Maryland and John and Linda Sharlow, Corpus Christi, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah and James, Joanne, Dylan, Austin, Angelica, Karly and Jaden, Jackie and her great-grandchildren George, Elizabeth, Andrew and Brady, along with several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister Gertrude Sovie.
This wonderful woman graces this earth for 92 years. We have been so proud to call her wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her love of life has been passed on to all of us.
