Very happy to call Pete a friend of mine , if ever I thought one man was invincible I would have thought Pete was that guy , we have had many a meaningful conversation about recreation for our communities kids and what we could do to make things better for the kids , Pete was my mentor and a man I looked up to very much , to call him my friend was a honor . My sincerest condolences to his family and know in my mind he will never be forgotten . He left a very real mark in this area for sure and is impossible to replace for what he accomplished and what he built at Norwood beach. A very great loss for for the North Country

We were so sad to hear the shocking news that Pete had died. He visited Virginia several times with Tom and Kari and was always a warm and wonderful guest who was interested in the children and all around him. His passion for youth sport and well being was genuine and always impressed us. His cycling was an inspiration to our family who will hold him dear as we ride in various parts of the world. Our hearts go out to all of the LePages at this difficult time. There is much to celebrate about Pete's life and while tragic- the fact that he was doing what he loved to do best is we hope, of some comfort. XOXO the Morris's

Pete was such a great friend to me and The Bicycle Post. He was always an inspiration to me and all of my customers. All of the people that have and are now participating in Duathalons, Tri's and any local cycling event have Pete to thank. My Father had a few good stories about Pete and thought the world of him. I will take a piece of him with always.

My deepest sympathies to the entire LePage Family. I only wish I could be there to express them in person.
Mr. LePage was a huge part of my life growing up,as was the entire LePage Family. I spent alot of time in my formative years hanging out at 6 Harrison Street. So many memories-cross country trips, track, summer road and bike races/events, trip to NYC to Meadowlands, his support of local high school teams-basketball in my case, Babe Ruth baseball, etc..etc...Mr. LePage got me summer jobs with the county, at the beach, at the arena assisting Joe Mariano with electrical work, etc...so many memories. Of late, I have heard about Mr. LePage through my parents, storing our boat at the arena, etc...he was 'old school' in the best ways, underneath a gruff exterior, a great man with a big heart who gave back to the community like few others with his time and sweat, and efforts. He will be deeply missed.

Grateful Oars Rowing Club posted a condolence
Polly and family, we members of Grateful Oars Rowing Club wish you strength as you grieve the loss of Pete, who was our friend. We will miss him very much.
Pete was a great friend to Norwoods community rowing club and an Honorary Member. He was instrumental in arranging for our original lease with the Village in the late 90s. He was important in the construction of our home-made boathouse in that he dug the footers for the many posts that form the strong basis for the structure. Pete rowed for a time with the Tuesday morning crew of senior men before deciding that bicycle racing was really his thing. We admired Pete for his competition in statewide events like the NYS Senior Games. He often could be seen far away from Norwood on a training ride on his incredible carbon-fiber racing bike.
We knew Pete as outwardly a curmudgeon, and oh, such a man of principal, but he was really a very nice and caring man. Ron Johnson relates that recently Pete showed up at the rowing dock on his bike and asked which Grateful Oars boat bears his name, For Petes Sake. This may have been one of the several times that Ron says Pete actually rode his bike right out onto the dock. It might have been the first time he had actually seen his name on the boat and he seemed pleased. It was at this same occasion that he told about an upcoming 50th wedding anniversary party that his family was planning for him and his wife. In his gruff way he told them in no uncertain terms that there was NO way he was going to wear a suit and tie. They kidded him that he might want to consider wearing shorts with the shirt and tie.
One of Rons fondest memories has to do with the Norwood duathlons. Emily Coates and Ron used to do them as a team. When Emily moved away Pete asked Ron if he wanted him to find another partner, which he did. It turned out to be Josh Eng, the head lifeguard at the beach. Pete told Josh that he would be fired as a lifeguard if Ron and Josh team beat his team. Pete used to tell great stories, including the time he accidentally hit the boathouse with a piece of construction equipment, taking out three or four siding boards and giving us a kind of quick window. Another of his stories had him getting a bulldozer stuckhe said buriedin the wet ground next to the boathouse when attempting to improve the drainage.
Pete, still a competitive cyclist at age 79, was an inspiration on how to age well to all of us, which makes his death all the more puzzling and sad. Some of our members did not know him well, but all of us surely will miss his gruff good humor and his side of the story, told with passion and conviction, and yet with a twinkle in his eye.

One of our first memories Pete were at the Senior Games in Cortland with Polly. Through the years we saw them again at Jim and Chris' wedding and Evan's baptism. I understand after visiting with Jim and Chris last week that at your 50th Annv. you both had a wonderful time. That was a blessing. Our hearts go out to Polly, Chris, Jim and Evan and the rest of family. We hope the fond and fun memories replace the grief with time. RIP Pete.
