COLTONFuneral services for 79 year old Barbara Ann Woods Wheaton will be held on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton with Lane Schermerhorn presiding. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Barbara passed away peacefully on May 26, 2013 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital with all her children surrounding her.
Barbara was born in Corinth, NY on January 30, 1934 to the late Paul and Evelyn Clark Woods. She graduated from Corinth High School in 1951. After high school she went to Albany Union University School of Nursing, graduating in 1954. On June 19th 1954, she married Chester Howard Wheaton of Corinth, NY. Chester passed away on December 22, 1988. Barbara and Chester resided in Corinth until 1964. During that time Barbara worked at Corinth Hospital as an RN. In 1964 they moved upstate to Norfolk, NY then settling in South Colton in 1965. She began nursing at Potsdam Hospital for 3 years. In 1968 they moved to Colton and she began working as an RN in the Student Health Services at State University College of Potsdam until 1991 when she retired.
She is survived by her beloved children, Michael J. and Colleen Wheaton, South Colton; Susan K. and Robert Flint, Moira; Noreen J. and William Miller, Colton and Nancy J. and Kevin Thomas, Colton. Barbara is survived by one sister, Bonnie M. and Alan Roast, Sterling, VA; two brothers, Paul T. and Cora Woods Jr., Bennington, KS and Robert K. and Jane Woods, Peru, NY.
She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Jaimie Thomas, Robert Thomas, Christopher and Misty Thomas, Emily and Brian Keddy, Chad Fisher, Neil Flint and fiancé Keely Dunning, Ryan Flint and fiancé Kelly Houston, Krista Flint and fiancé Jeremy Sauve, Kyle Flint, Melissa and Shane Lovely, Michael C. and Melissa Wheaton, Adam and Angie Gladding, Ricky Gladding; and great grandchildren Brianna Thomas, Samantha Marsh, Karissa Keddy, Skyler Flint, Tyler Lovely, Matilyn Lovely, Trinity Thomas, Cohlee Fisher, Aevah Fisher, Sierra Thomas and Easton Sauve.
Barbara surrounded her family with love and embraced every moment spent with them as they did with her. She was a very caring person, always willing to help others in whatever was needed. She cherished her many friendships throughout her years and time spent with each of them. She wished to be remembered as someone willing to give of herself whether it be cleaning, listening to problems or assisting in care of peoples needs.
