COLTONFuneral services for 75 year old Joan L. Deugaw, 18 Stowe Bay Road Extension, Colton, will be held Tuesday at 11 am at St. Patricks Church in Colton with Rev. Msgr. Robert Aucoin presiding. Burial will be held in St. Patricks Cemetery, Colton. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Monday from 4-7 pm. Mrs. Deugaw passed away early Wednesday morning at her home.
Joan is survived by a son, David Wilcox, Poughkeepsie; three daughters, Nancy Kelsey, Boonville; Theresa and James Walker Jr., Lorton, VA; Mary and Chris Sanchez, Colton, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Joan is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Janet and Donald Dlugolenski, Syracuse; Sharon and John Terzian, Marcellus, NY and Debra and Kurt Hayes, Oswego, NY and her beloved aunt, Mary Hunt. Joan was pre-deceased by her husband and a daughter, Kathleen Deugaw.
Born in Syracuse on July 26, 1936 to the late Ervin and Jennie Middlemiller Lake, she earned her AAS Degree from Cazenovia College. Joan married Edward G. Deugaw on August 24, 1973. Ed passed away on May 27, 2007. Joan worked for the Adirondack Central School in Boonville for many years, starting off as a secretary, and ending her working career as the District Treasurer. Previously, she worked for Mohawk Airline in the Oneida area. In 1993, Joan and Ed moved from the Boonville area to Colton. Joan was a member of St. Patricks Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Joan was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the NYS Association of Educational Office Professionals, a member of Dawns Gang and the Colton-Pierrepont Senior Racqueteers. Joan loved to read, crochet and enjoyed cats, horses and watching her mystery television shows. Memorial Donations can be made to St. Lawrence Valley Hospice or to the Colton Rescue Squad.
