NORWOOD A Memorial Mass for 84 year old Frances M. Oakes, 541 County Route 48, Norwood, will be held Tuesday at 10 am at St. Andrews Church in Norwood, with Rev. Andrew Amyot presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Norwood. There will be no calling hours. Mrs. Oakes passed away September 30th in Canton, where she was under the care of her family and Hospice.
Frances is survived by her three sons, Dennis and Marianne (Kish) Oakes of Norwood; Thomas and Lisa (Stone) Oakes, Canton and Robert and Kathy (Foley) Oakes, also of Norwood. Frances is also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, her sister Alice Dolecki, Sebastian, FL and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, her two brothers, Roscoe and David Allen and her two sisters, Bertha Allen and Jean Weaver.
Born in Potsdam on June 3, 1927 to the late Rufus and Mina Fisk Allen, she married James Oakes Jr. on February 18, 1950 at St. Andrews Church in Norwood with Rev. Alfred Kolodzej presiding. James passed away on November 3, 1993. Frances was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and bingo, and visiting the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. At the request of the family, donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley or to the Richard E. Winters Cancer Treatment Center in Ogdensburg.
