Obituary of Carl R. Davey

NORFOLK - Graveside services for 73 year old Carl R. Davey, of 12 South Main Street, Norfolk; will be held in the Spring.There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Mr.Davey died peacefully at his home on January 3, 2010. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk. Surviving are his wife Bonnie of Norfolk; six sons; James and Kimberly Davey of Brockville,Ontario,Canada;William Davey of Rhode Island,Daniel and Rosario Davey of Rhode Island; Thomas and Sheryl Davey of Warrensburg, Kenneth and Beth Davey of Maryland, Neil Cassada of Winthop; four daughters; Shirley Edmondson of Redwood,Virginia Davey of Redwood,Mira and James Ordon of Delanson,NY, Ann and Douglas Chase of Ypsilanti, Michigan; several grand and great-grandchildren.He is also survived by two brothers; John Davey and his companion Sandy Frego of Massena, Richard and Sylvia Davey of Star Lake; five sisters; Rita and Lloyd King of Norfolk, Alice King of Norfolk, Mary Olmstead of Norfolk, Theresa Lindsey of Norfolk, Margaret and Alan Woodall of Norfolk and several nieces and nephews.Among the survivors are good friends Murray Simonet,Morris White, Jake and Karen Adams, Carl and Sara Caskinette and the Che Che Grenon. He was pre-deceased by a son Robert. Born in Norfolk on November 14, 1936, son of John and Myrtle Babbit Davey; he married Bonnie Tyo in 1977.He was a technician at Clarkson University for 43 years. He may be most remembered for his ability to laugh and celebrate life. He loved playing tunes on his fiddle and has genorously shared his talents for decades while entertaining groups throughout the North Country. Most prominent among these country bands may be his membership in the "Wagoneers" and most recently, his band, "Mountain Dew". His version of "Orange Blossom Special" may be remembered as a highlight of his show. Carl loved children,old waltzes,cats, and deer in the woods. He loved and was known for successfully solving a great range of mechanical problems. He loved bringing out the beauty in a grain of wood, telling jokes, and having conversations with good friends. He loved his job at Clarkson University and the friends he made while being there. Carl loved a warm handshake, hugs, and jam sessions at family gatherings. He loved a good harmony line and would accompany his wife Bonnie; son Jim; or daughters Annie and Mira with them marvelously. He loved food, cold beer on a hot day, a crackling outdoor fire; scotch whiskey, and just goofing around. He loved his tractor, truck, and being out on the river in his pontoon boat. Most of all, he loved his family. His newest grandson Henry brought the last smile to Carl's handsome face. We'll miss him dearly. He was a member of the Norwood American Legion and co-founder of the North Country Fiddlers Association. He was a Navy Veteran. The Buck Funeral Home is serving the family of Carl R. Davey
