For my old friend Bonnie, and the family of Carl, I send my sincerest condolence. I was in Massena with my father, Charley, who was going through the last days of his life at the time of your loss. I had to come back to Huntsville on the 6th, and he held on until the 8th. But I was there at the same time, and feel like I can honestly say that we shared the experience. My thoughts are with you as well at this time.

Bonnie, So sad to hear of Carl's death. I can only immagine how hard the last few years have been. I am sorry that I only heard him play that one time, I hear he was an outstanding musician. When my Mom was in her last years someone said to me: "Please God, come and get her so I can love her again" I soon knew the true meaning of that sentence. I am sure you will too...............Gail

Bonnie and family,
I was so sorry to hear about Carl. I think back of all the wonderful times we have had through the years together starting back with Davey and the Wolfe. I enjoyed dancing to his music, especially when the fiddle came out of the case. I will always remember singing with you guys once in a while or just sitting around visiting and enjoying a beer. You guys were always fun to spend time with and I'll cherish the memories forever. Thank You. You are in our prayers. Call or Email me.

Jim, Mira, and Bonnie;
I want to send my most heartfelt condolences to you all on the passing of Carl. Its been so many years since I sat behind the drum kit with that wonderful fiddler and learned all those great old American songs. He was a wealth of knowledge and character when it came to our national musical heritage, and looking back, I believe he was a true pioneer in the resurgence of the old time musical tradition in this country as witnessed later by the O Brother Where Art Thou phenomenon. To this day, I consider myself truly blessed to have known Carl, and to have had the opportunity to work with him in the musical style he so dearly loved. Ill never forget those wonderful gigs we all played together as Mountain Dew all throughout St. Lawrence County in the early 1980s.
I also remember Carl as a kind and gracious man with a warm smile and a generous heart. He never failed to welcome me into his house, and share the bounty of his home and heart whenever I visited you all.
I wish you all Gods peace as you mourn the passing of The Leader of the Band
With fondest memories and warmest regards,
Bill & Pam Scruggs
