POTSDAM – Graveside services for Kay E. Cayey, 78, a resident of Debra Drive, Potsdam and formerly of the Wildwood Road, Colton, will be held at a later date in the Stark Cemetery, South Colton. Mrs. Cayey passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Kay is survived by her three daughters, Kelly and Peter DeShane, Hannawa Falls; Amy Cayey and Dennis Shea (pre-deceased), South Colton and Emily Dunn and Tim Stone, Pierrepont; her four beloved grandchildren, Cody J. Willmart, Samantha Klemens, Morgan Dunn, Rhiannon Dunn and five great-grandchildren. Kay is also survived by a brother, John "Rick" and Marie Smith, Brownville and her three sisters, Donna Reif, Hannawa Falls; Nancy Connelly, Hannawa Falls and Linda Fingar, Texas as well as several nieces and nephews. Kay was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Vivian. Born in Potsdam, NY on June 8, 1946 to the late John and Vivian Morgan Smith, she graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School, Class of 1963. A marriage to James E. Cayey later ended in divorce. Kay was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed reading, crocheting and socializing with her family and friends. Kay loved being with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial donations in Kay's memory can be made to the Colton Fire Department or to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com .
