COLTON – Graveside services for Charles E. Davis, 92, a resident of 118 West Higley Flow Camp Road, Colton, will be held at a later date to be announced in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Colton. Mr. Davis passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at his home with family at his side. Charles is survived by his son, Stephen Davis, Parishville and Pota Davis, Canton; his daughter, Ann Porter, Georgetown, TX; four grandchildren, Stephen (Allison) Davis II, Potsdam, NY, Lia Davis, NJ, Laura Porter, TX, and David Porter, NY, and four great-grandchildren. Charles is also survived by his step-children, Christopher and Penney Champney, Palmer, AK; Susan and Richard Merchant, Delanson, NY; five step-grandchildren, Benjamin (Hannah) Aldrich, New Haven, CT and Ryan (Christen) Aldrich, Bakerfield, CA, Kristian (Claire) Merchant, Clarence, NY, Anna Merchant, Manlius, NY and Grace Merchant, Potsdam, NY, as well as several step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by his parents and wife of 38 years, Sandra Remington Davis. Born in Massena, NY on February 6, 1932 to the late Arba and Mary Resh Davis, Charles graduated from Massena Central School, Class of 1950. He served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1951 to 1953 and then again from 1953-1959 in the 1703 READY Reserve. Charles attended the Electrical Apprenticeship and joined Local 910 IBEW. He worked on several construction projects over the years, including West Point Military Academy, The Empire State Building and the Plattsburgh missile base. He retired from the NY Power Authority in Massena in 1994. A marriage to Julia Demeter ended in divorce and Charles later remarried Sandra Remington on July 8, 1976. Sandra passed away on September 7, 2022. Charles was a past member of the Norfolk Fire Department and was a past Commissioner of the Colton Fire District. He was also a past member of the Colton Board of Appeals and the Potsdam Elks Lodge. In his spare time, Charles enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, hunting, traveling, cooking and woodworking. Memorial donations in Charles' memory can be made to the Colton Fire Department and Rescue squad or the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
