Obituary of Jane T. Claffey

LAKE PLACID – A Mass of Christian Burial for Jane T. Claffey, 88, a resident of the Elderwood of Uihlein Nursing Home, Lake Placid and formerly of Plattsburgh and Norwood, will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew's Church in Norwood with Rev. Andrew Amyot presiding. Burial will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Norwood. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Jane passed away early Thursday morning, January 11, 2024 in Lake Placid. Jane is survived by her nieces and nephews; Robert Claffey, Norfolk; Ann Claffey Vincent, Brunswick, Maine; Theresa Claffey Trimble, Maryland; Dr. Mary Pat Claffey Bow, Tennessee; Tim Claffey, New Jersey and Kevin Claffey, Texas and their spouses and children. Jane was pre-deceased by her parents, a sister, Ellen Claffey and two brothers, Paul and Richard Claffey and a nephew, John. Born on January 19, 1935 in Potsdam, NY, a daughter of Ligouri and Margaret Gorman Claffey, Jane graduated from Norwood High School as well as Cortland State, earning her teaching degree. Jane was a Physical Education Teacher for many years in the Plattsburgh School District, retiring in 1990. Jane was active within the community, always willing to help in any way she could. Jane was a strong, independent and witty woman, who loved all the activities the outdoors had to offer. She loved to travel, go hiking, kayaking, sailing and taking horseback rides. She loved all animals, wild and domestic and often raised monies for the local animal shelters.
