POTSDAM – Graveside services for Evelyn L. Goodrich Johnston, 84, a resident of 2779 St. Highway 72, Potsdam, will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood, with Rev. Alfred Fish presiding. Mrs. Johnston passed away Tuesday evening, May 2, 2023 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital peacefully with family at her side. Evelyn is survived by her longtime best friend, William Goodrich, Potsdam; a son, Ricky Goodrich and his companion Lisa Palmer, Norwood; a daughter, Michelle Goodrich Oehler and her companion Jeffrey Tavernia, Potsdam; her four beloved grandchildren, Jamey Sharlow, Allie Oehler, Kristen Goodrich and Julie Wolniewicz; two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Lauren Wolniewicz and two nieces, Linda and Larry Goodrich and Gloria and Tom Abelgore. Evelyn was pre-deceased by two husbands, James Fagala and James Johnston; a brother Bernard Larabee and a sister Freda Howe.
Born in Potsdam, NY on June 15, 1938 to the late Aldige A. and Frances Laraby Larabee, Evelyn graduated from Potsdam Central School and married William Goodrich. Although the marriage ended in divorce, her and William remained good friends. Evelyn later remarried James Fagala and James Johnston whom both pre-deceased her. Evelyn worked as a Telephone Operator and Maintenance Administrator for NY Telephone for several years before moving to Texas to work for Southwestern Bell, where she eventually retired from. In her free time, Evelyn enjoyed golfing, dancing – especially in her clogging group, bingo and taking an occasional trip to the casino. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and her most favorite dog, Jakey.
