Obituary of Anna W. Sharlow

HANNAWA FALLS -- Calling hours for Anna W. Sharlow, 86, a resident of St. Highway 56, Potsdam, will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the springtime at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Colton. Anna passed away Thursday morning, February 16, 2023 at the Carthage Rehabilitation Center after a brief stay after suffering from a severe stroke. Anna is survived by three sons, Dennis (Joy) Sharlow, Potsdam NY; Ben (Pam) Sharlow, Potsdam NY; Calvin (Sara) Sharlow, Norwood NY; her beloved grandchildren, Karissa (Nathan) Masuicca, Ryan (Whitney) Sharlow, Jared (Brittany) Sharlow, Maryanna (Betiri) Estornes, Makayla (Lonnie) Mast, her two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Myers as well as several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Gene in 2005, a son Bobby in 1981 and two sisters, Rosa and Stephanie. Born in Laon, France on May 20, 1936 to the late Gregoire and Wladyslawa Nicpon Pytiak, she graduated from High School and married her beloved husband at a small family wedding in France. Together, Gene and Anna traveled to the United States aboard his fleet ship where Gene served in the U.S Air Force, going through Ellis Island, where Anna then became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Anna was an active lady her entire life, whether she was on her typical 4 mile walk, swimming, going to Tai Chi, sewing or teaching French lessons to many local students right up until she was stricken ill. Anna also substitute taught French at the Colton-Pierrepont Central School for many years. She always enjoyed a celebration especially if it involved family, champagne and a limousine.
