WINTHROP – Calling hours for 54 year old Nyoka M. Brown, a resident of 16 Green Meadows Road, Winthrop, will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, when a prayer will be offered by Rev. Lee Sweeney. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Norwood in the springtime Mrs. Brown passed away on January 15, 2019 at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse. Nyoka is survived by her husband of 14 years, Michael, a son, Heriberto and Casey Escobales, Potsdam; her two daughters, Wannita Richards, Potsdam and Jesica Escobales, Potsdam; her two step-children, Joel and Heather Brown, Hannawa Falls and Michael Brown and his companion Teshia Laffin, Massena; her three beloved grandchildren, Hailey Richards, Xavier Brown and Zachary Brown; her father, Edward and Charlotte Richards, Ft. Jackson; her two sisters, Patricia Richards, Massachusetts; Christine Laraby, Ogdensburg; a brother Steve Murray, Canton as well as several nieces and nephews. Nyoka was pre-deceased by her mother Dorothy and a brother George.
Born in Potsdam, NY on March 28, 1963 to Edward and Dorothy Tedford Richards, Nyoka attended NNCS and later moved to Massachusetts to work. She later moved back to the North Country and was working for ARMARK at Clarkson University. Nyoka enjoyed going to bingo and the casino as well as playing cards with her family and friends during poker night. She also loved animals, as she raised chickens for a while. Nyoka's greatest sense of relaxation was to spend time with her grandchildren.
