Obituary of William C. "Bill" Spencer

NORWOOD – Funeral services for 89 year old William C. "Bill" Spencer, a resident of 273 Lakeshore Drive, Norwood, will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Burial will be held in the Calvary Cemetery in Norwood. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Mr. Spencer passed away Thursday evening, November 15, 2018 at the St. Regis Nursing Home after a brief stay. Bill is survived by his children William and Diane Spencer, Varysburg, NY; Michael and Constance Spencer, Norfolk; LaVonne Lucidi, Watertown, Priscilla & Stephen Fitzpatrick, Glen Park, Betsy Levison, Camillus, Shawn and Kimberlie Scott, Florida, Sherri & Brian Martin, Watertown, Shane & Karin Scott, Brownville; Shannon Scott, Maryland; Linda and Richard Senecal, Norwood; Charles E. and Sharon House Jr., Potsdam; Stephen and Laurie House, Hannawa Falls and Mark A. House, Norwood. Bill is also survived by his daughters-in-law Sharlene Spencer, Havelock and Carol Hughs, Potsdam as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his extended family. Bill was pre-deceased by his children David Spencer, Alton Scott, Reggie Scott and Pam Napolitano; his brothers George, Robert, David, John and a sister, Patricia. Born in Norfolk, NY on July 26, 1929 to the late Chester L. and Ineva D. Layaw, Bill attended school and then was a laborer for various companies, retiring from Conrail Railroad in Massena. He was a member of several Fire Departments throughout his career, lastly with the Norwood Volunteer Fire Department. Bill was also an active member of the What Cheer Masonic Lodge in Norwood and the Shriners. Bill loved to spend time with his family and friends socializing, going to golf a few holes with his friends and square dancing. He was full of life and was never underestimated as being a wise guy.
