POTSDAM -- Graveside services with military honors for 73 year old Roger K. Cole will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam with Rev. Stephen Rocker presiding. Roger passed away on November 10, 2018. Roger is survived by his wife, Holly Cole and his sons Edward and Chris. Roger also leaves' behind his family; Peter and Natalie Cole, Sharon A. Walker and Jana and Jeff Rose.
Roger was born on September 22, 1946 to the late Alvah and Ruth Smith Cole. He graduated from high school and entered the U.S. Air Force. Roger is a veteran of the Vietnam War and served his country in the U.S. Airforce as a Master Sergeant, retiring after 23 years of service where he earned many medals, some of which were; the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksman. He grew up in nearby Norfolk, NY where he began his interest in Amateur Radio and as a teenager hung his first wire antenna out his bedroom to a tall maple tree in the yard. He continued this gentleman's hobby for over 35 years and had many wonderful friends around the world within the HAM Radio Operator's Group. Roger always went out of his way to help his friends and family with any needs from building to electronics to raising radio towers. Roger had an infinity for animals and cherished his dogs with much love and humanity.
