NORWOOD – Funeral services for 66 year old Mary Anne Hicken, a resident of 32 Spring Street, Norwood, will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood. Calling hours will be held at the Buck Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until the service at 6:00 p.m. Mary Anne passed away Sunday afternoon at her home while surrounded by her family.
Mary Anne is survived by her husband of 42 years, Duane Hicken, Norwood; two sons, Wade Hicken, Norwood, Shawn Hicken, North Carolina; two daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Seth Belt, Stockholm, and Jeanette Gails, Norfolk; three grandchildren, Parker Belt, Tanner Hicken, and Dylan Spicer. She is also survived by her mother, Elizabeth Austin, Brasher; three brothers, Richard Austin, Houston, Patrick (Judy) Austin, Brasher, and Anthony (Sherri) Austin, Houston; and a sister, Christine "Tina" (Kyran) Kelly, Syracuse. Mary Anne was pre-deceased by her father Richard Austin and her brother Stephen Austin.
Mary Anne was born in Potsdam, NY on December 19, 1951 to Richard and Elizabeth (Folgert) Austin and married Duane M. Hicken on March 31, 1976. She graduated from St. Lawrence Central School and received her Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Potsdam. Mary Anne was an elementary school teacher in the Massena Central School system for over 30 years until she retired. Her passion for teaching touched the lives of many children throughout her career. You could often find Mary Anne enjoying time with her family and furry friends or engrossed in a good book.
