SOUTH COLTON -- Edward C. Long, 77, of South Colton passed away peacefully while in the company of family at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital on Friday, August 3, 2018. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Church in South Colton, with Rev. Stephen Rocker, celebrating.
Ed was born June 12, 1941 in South Colton, the son of the late James and Margaret (Buckley) Long. On October 12, 1968, he was married to Mary Jones at St. Paul's Catholic Church in South Colton with Rev. John Canning, celebrating the marriage. Ed attended Colton-Pierrepont Central School and worked early on as a mechanic and truck driver, but later became a member of Union Labor Local 322, which he continued with for 30 years. Ed was a very kind man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He was a long time member of the Raquette Valley Fish and Game Club and a member of the Sunday Rock ATV Club.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Mary of South Colton; two sons, Michael and wife Susan Long and Brian and wife Karen Long; by two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Alannah Long; eight sisters, Ann (Merton) Scovil; Katherine Collins; Grace Regan; Dorothy Hobbs; Mary (Bar) Aiken; Sarah Long (Randy Shea); Donna (Charles) Merriman; Jacqueline (Don) Johnson, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved dog Spike. Ed is pre-deceased by his brother John Long and by his brother-in- laws Dale Collins, Jimmy Regan, and Ralph Hobbs.
