SOUTH COLTON—Funeral services for 79 year old Bernard J. Buckley, a resident of 4000 State Highway 56, South Colton, will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton with Pastor Dave McDonald presiding. Burial will take place following the services at Pleasant Mound Cemetery in Colton. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Tuesday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. Mr. Buckley passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Canton Potsdam Hospital.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nora, South Colton; his children, Cora and Jim Pearl, Potsdam; Ken Buckley, Ogdensburg; Arthur "Sam" Buckley, Colton; Randi Buckley, Potsdam; Amy and Phil Netzband, Cazenovia; his 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and his sister, Luella Wells, Massena. Bernard was pre-deceased by his parents, a daughter Robin Buckley and his infant granddaughter Wendy.
Born in Colton, on November 21, 1938 to the late James and Bertha Chase Buckley. He married Nora Smithers on January 25, 1992. Bernard owned and operated Buckley's Garage in South Colton for 48 years, specializing in transmissions. Bernard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He had a love for animals, especially dogs, cats and horses. He enjoyed old cars, playing cards, and going out to the local diner to visit. Bernard was a past member of the Colton Fire Department and a charter member of Ormsby Pond Hunting Club. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Colton Rescue Squad, the Colton Fire Department, the Potsdam Humane Society or Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at www.buckfuneralhome.com.
