NORWOOD—Funeral Services for 86 year old Nina J. House Spencer, a resident of Norwood, will be held Saturday June 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Norwood following the services. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 3-7 p.m. Mrs. Spencer passed away on May 28, 2018 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital with her family at her side.
Nina is survived by her husband of 26 years, William Spencer, Norwood; her daughter, Linda and Richard Senecal, Norwood; three sons, Charles E. and Sharon House Jr., Potsdam; Stephen and Laurie House, Hannawa Falls; Mark A. House, Norwood; her three beloved grandchildren, Rick Senecal, Jamie Senecal and Eian House; three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Nina was pre-deceased by her parents, her first husband, Charles E. House Sr. in 1989, a sons James House in 1974, her grandson, Christian P. House in 2008, her two brothers, Ralph and Albert Barrigar and her two sisters, Daisy LaGoy and Inez Roberts.
Born in Norfolk, NY on August 28, 1931 to the late Purl and Grace DeShane Barrigar, Nina married Charles E. House Sr. on September 3, 1950. Charles passed away on February 22, 1989. Later, Nina married William Spencer on Oct. 12, 1991. Nina was a devoted wife and mother, but also worked for SUNY Potsdam PACES as well as helping run the restaurant for the Potsdam Paper Mill. She enjoyed playing cards and taking an occasional trip to the casino, cooking and feeding others as an act of love, and being with her family and friends. Most significantly she was a tireless advocate for anyone in need and lived to serve her family, friends, and strangers alike. She was a devout lifetime congregate of the Norwood United Methodist Church. Nina also became an avid Syracuse University Basketball fan in the last several years.
