NORWOOD—Services for Theron G. LaRue, 84, a resident of 12 Pine Street, Norwood, will be held in the springtime at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with burial to be held in Carville Cemetery in Helena, NY. Mr. LaRue passed away Friday afternoon at his home surrounded by his family. Theron is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley, Norwood; his children, Brenda and Bruce Jenkins, Winthrop; Donna James, Norwood; Michael and Linda LaRue, Norwood; Alice Osoway, Norwood and Peter LaRue, Norwood; his beloved eight grandchildren, Jared Phillips, Amanda and David Major, Jennifer and Michael Donahue, Aimee LaRue, Ashlee and Richard Brothers, Levi and Anne LaRue, Mallory and Scott Matson and Austin Osoway. Theron is also survived by his five great grandchildren, a brother Frederick and Sharleen LaRue, FL and two sisters, Julia and Kenneth LaShomb and Bertha and Reggie Mott, both of Massena as well as several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Gretchen Ashley, whom was thought of as a daughter. Theron was pre-deceased by his brothers Moses LaRue, Lawrence Ober and James Ober and his sisters Bernice Kallison, Irene Phelix and Beulah Suzdak.
Born in Massena, NY on January 1, 1934 to the late Fred and Alice Jesmer LaRue, Theron graduated from high school and entered the U.S. Army, serving in Germany for 2 ½ years from 1952-1955. He married Shirley G. Cole on November 10, 1956 upon his return home from the service. Theron worked at ALCOA in Massena for 39 years, retiring as a millwright in 1991. Theron was a member of the Norwood United Methodist Church and the Winthrop American Legion and enjoyed puttering around and doing home repairs. Theron also enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren, camping with his family and cooking, in which he cooked for many church functions.
