I have been friends with Bob's mother Lena for many years. Through his mom I met Bob many times. My condolences to his wife and children. May you find peace in knowing that you had a wonderful husband and loving father to your children. Now he is resting with God and watching over all of you. My sincere condolences.

Bob may not have shared this part of his life with all the children. As someone who met him in his formative years, when he was struggling with his direction, and then as a fellow fighter against the powerline, I want to share this with the children.
There are moments in our relationships with others we come to regret, wish we could change. Sometime, we can, but too often that opportunity to make amends never comes. I had a student when I taught Humanities at Clarkson University who was brilliant, restless, chafing in his major as a chemical engineer. He came from a difficult childhood but seemed headed for a bright future. As a student he ended up preparing for a career in the law, a career he achieved.
Bob Sassone left his first law position with a major midwest firm to return to the North Country. He did not plan on the next steps but they were quite remarkable. The North Country was in an uproar about a new massive powerline being built through our part of New York. While many of us tried to obstruct construction physically, Bob would drive the 150 miles to Albany to represent us in Health and Safety hearings against a phalanx of very experienced, expensive, powerful lawyers who never lost a case on behalf of the New York Power Authority. Of course, we failed to stop the construction of this line, but Bob was magnificent. Unafraid, cheeky even in the view of the main lawyer for the NYPA. Bob was unpaid, had little legal back-up, but he did his best.
Sadly, our lives diverged and we lost touch. I am saddened to read this evening that he passed away on Dec. 29 at the age of 66. He settled in the North Country, raised his family, provided legal services to the community for 40 years, until too ill to continue. When I think about the North Country, Bob is always part of that amazing social network in my memory. Rest in peace. May his memory always be a blessing to his children and grandchildren.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I shared a house with Bob our senior year at college. Needless to say, Bob was unforgettable. Lots of crazy memories are flooding in while I think back to that unique time in our lives. It sounds like Bob went on to live a sweet life in the North Country both professionally and with a large and loving family. Good for you, Bob! Rest In Peace,
Krystal Kate

Sheila and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Bob was a great guy! For years and years he was a kind friend to my parents, and I will always appreciate the start he gave me in law. I didn't know him well before I started working for him, but I'll always remember his going above and beyond to make sure it was a good experience for me and that I had a chance to get lots of perspective on the profession. That showed a lot of class and kindness, and I will remember him for those qualities. I will miss him. My condolences.

I never got to meet Robert. However, I have been fortunate enough to meet Michael and enjoy his friendship. Knowing Michael is surely a reflection of his father, I can only imagine the kind of man he was. The lives he touched and people he came into contact with are all for the better having known Robert. My condolescenes to him and his family.

Bob was a friend to us, our extended family, and our children. His loss is devastating. His struggle was heroic and he will always be remembered for the love he had for his family and his untiring efforts for them. Bob was literally great at everything he did. What Bob did best was to be a good human being.
Our sincerest condolences to the family.

Sheila & Family,
Not the news we wanted to hear, but knew it was coming. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. This is certainly a very difficult time for you and for many others as well.
As you know, Bob was my PTCC Men's League Partner, my friend and in many ways, my mentor. I will miss him dearly, but we truly believe that he's in a better place and we WILL SEE HIM again as I'm very confident, reflecting back on many of our conversations, about his faith in God.
I can honestly say, Bob wasn't just a gentleman, Bob was a "Gentle Man" which is truly a task for such a competitor. He certainly enjoyed the competition. and certainly had his share of success.
May God Bless You,
Bill & Lorraine

My deepest sympathy to all Bob’s family and friends.
He was such a nice man to everyone he met.
I may have only known him briefly but he left a lasting imprint on my life since 2002.
He was truly a man of integrity and professionalism. He could make you laugh during some of the most serious of times. May all the memories of him comfort those who cared and loved him......
Heaven gained a true Angel
With deepest sympathy. Darlene Pelton

Bob, My husband and I just moved back to the North Country after 40+ years away. Have come full circle and immersed ourselves once again in Clarkson Hockey. Was intending to look you up one of these days to see if you were still the crazy party animal you were in college! Sorry I was late. Wishing you a peaceful rest until we meet up with the old crew again.
