COLTON—Funeral Services for 80 year old Rexford L. Sampier, a resident of 9 Hull Street, Colton, will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton with Rev. Thomas Chappell presiding. Burial will follow the services at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Colton. Mr. Sampier passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Rex is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anita, Colton; two sons, Anthony and Nancy Sampier, East Lyme, CT; Jefferey Sampier, Colton; two daughters, Terry and Kerry Cochran and Jennifer and Ronald Yacketta, both of Colton; his eight grandchildren, Matthew and Christina Sampier; Sarah and Chris Allen; Andrew Cochran; Dominic, Hannah and Aleisa Yacketta; Megan and Bryan Lincoln and Kelly Jo Sampier; his five great-grandchildren and several cousins. Rex was pre-deceased by his parents and a daughter, Deborah Sampier.
Born in Massena, NY on June 5, 1937 to the late Howard and Maude Irish Sampier, Rex graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School in 1957 and married Anita Perkins on August 30, 1958. Rex served with the U.S. Army and was a very talented man, working in Connecticut for several years as a Toolist for Pratt and Whitney, as well as driving for Mobile Oil Company and working for Otis Elevator and Armor Elevator Companies respectively. Rex was also a self-employed carpenter, owning and operating S&S Contracting, in which his work was featured in an architectural magazine. Rex also worked for Higley Builders in Colton and was an accomplished welder. Rex enjoyed racing stock cars in his earlier years for M.E. Avery and was very active with the Weeblo's and Boy Scout's. Rex was active with the High Falls Masonic Lodge in Colton, being a Master and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
