I can imagine Butch sitting in front of the gates of heaven shuffling a deck of cards. Peter opens the gate and asks Stephen, what are you doing? Butch looks up and says, pick a card, any card. Peter sits at the table with Stephen, Butch asks Peter while still shuffling, who is your boss, pic a card. Peter picks a card and lays it down face up. Butch says, King, you work for the King. But not only a King. Pick a card. Peter picks again, lays it down by the first card, another King. Butch says you work for the King of Kings. I’ve heard of him, is he the only boss. Pick a card. Peter picks a 3. You have 3 bosses. That must make it hard. Let’s see, Butch lays 3 more cards face down in front of Peter, turns them over one by one. All 3’s. Butch puts the cards together and taps them once. Once card remains, the 3 of Hearts. I see Butch says, the three are one, the Father, Son and Holy Spirt. “I like those guys.” Stephen looks at Peter with a big smile and laughs and says, “I’m like Popeye, I am what I am and that’s all that I ‘am.” Peter wraps both arms around Stephen embracing him and says dear dear child of God you are so very much more both in your time on earth and now in the Kingdom of God. You have given your love to people. The greatest gift that one could ever give on earth as it is in Heaven.

I feel fortunate to have met Butch at the American legion and enjoyed his great sense of humor and love of cooking. His love for his beautiful wife was also something that was endearing to all. He will be greatly missed by so many including myself. It was an honor to have known him and my prayers and love are with his family, friends and Bonnie.
