NORFOLK—A Mass of Christian Burial for 90 year old Dorothy M. Mitchell, a resident of 6 Maple Street, Norfolk, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. Burial will follow the services at the Visitation Cemetery in Norfolk. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk in Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Mrs. Mitchell passed away early Thursday morning at the Highland Home in Massena as she has been a resident for two months.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Marvin Mitchell, Norfolk; Richard and Janet Mitchell, Scio, NY; eight grandchildren, Nolan Mitchell, Connor Mitchell, Richard Jr and Alex Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Casen and Anthony DeMaria, Kristen Mitchell, William Payne and Holly Payne; a brother Harold and Audrey Adams, Norfolk as well as several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband, a son, William Payne, a granddaughter, Jessica Oney, three brothers, Merle, Clarence and Clark Adams and two sisters, Viola Woodard and Jean Rockwood.
Born on March 23, 1927 in Raymondville, NY on the family farm to the late Hersey and Lillian McGregor Adams, Dorothy married Marvin J. Mitchell on August 4, 1956. Marvin passed away on August 1, 1999. Dorothy was a cook for ARA Food Service for Clarkson University for over twenty years. She was very active in the community and was a member of the Church of the Visitation along with the Altar and Rosary Society. Dorothy was also a member of the Norfolk American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Norwood Jolly Agers and the Norfolk Senior Citizens. She enjoyed taking trips with her senior friends and spending time with and caring for her family.
