Obituary of Geraldine "Gerry" Richards

NORFOLK—Graveside services for 78 year old Geraldine "Gerry" Richards, a resident of 30 South Main Street, Norfolk, will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Visitation Cemetery in Norfolk with Rev. Andrew Amyot presiding. Mrs. Richards passed away on Friday September 2, 2016 at her home with her family at her side. Gerry is survived by her husband of 57 years, John P. Richards, Norfolk; three sons, John Jr. and Karen, Richland, NY; Michael, St. Petersburg, FL.; Brian and Crystal, Kathleen, GA; her two daughters, Cheri Richards and Dawn Richey, both of Syracuse, NY; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Freda Champ, West Virginia. Gerry was pre-deceased by her brothers Leon, Frederick, and her twin brother, Gerald as well as a sister, Ida Horseler. Born in Hopkinton, NY on December 4, 1937 to the late Nelson and Bertha LaRose Hewitt, Gerry married John P. Richards on June 6, 1959 at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Fr. Connors presiding. Gerry was a homemaker and also worked at the WT Grants Store in Potsdam for several years. She was a communicant of the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk and was a member of the Norfolk American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #925. Gerry enjoyed watching T.V., traveling, spending time with her family and friends and taking an occasional trip to the casino.
