SOUTH COLTON—Services for 82 year old Edwin C. Young, a resident of 4240 St. Highway 56, South Colton, will be held privately. Burial will be held in the South Colton Cemetery. Mr. Young passed away early Sunday morning at his home with family at his side. Edwin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon, South Colton, his two sons, Clifford and Michelle Young, Lisbon; Michael and Jane Young, Louisville; his daughter, Shelley and Gary Rayner, Colton; his seven grandchildren, Cassandra Young, Angela Young, Gabriella Young, Clifford Young Jr., Colby Young, Gavin Dominy and Gyle Dominy. Edwin is also survived by his two great-granddaughters, Ellie Mae and Sloan, two brothers, Alton Young, FL.; Wayne Young, Potsdam and his two sisters, Leotta and Roger Scovil, South Colton and Gail Carriere, Massena. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Lawrence "Bugman" Young. Born in Colton on November 5, 1933 to the late Frank and Addie Pitts Young, Edwin married Sharon C. Cheney on May 14, 1960. He was a self-employed logger who was proud of his accomplishments. He worked for Ford and Watson clearing Brush on the Racquette River Dam Projects, working on all 5 Powerhouses. He also worked on the Penstocks in Colton and South Colton, building cribs to get the equipment over to the worksite, he helped tear down the wooden penstock between Colton and Brown's Bridge and he tore down the old Hollywood Hotel before flooding Cary Falls. He worked on the Grasse River Locks for the Seaway and also worked for ALCOA and Reynolds on the construction of the buildings as well. Edwin was an accomplished woodsman who had a reputation for leaving the woods and his work area cleaner than he found it. Edwin also loved spending time hunting, fishing and working in the woods. He was a past member of the Masons, the Colton Chapter and enjoyed spending time with his family. Memorial Donations in Edwin's memory can be made to the Colton Fire Department or Rescue Squad or to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
