NORWOODFuneral services for 84 year old Joseph J. Wilkins, 3 High Street, Norwood, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Church in Norwood with Rev. Msg. John Murphy presiding. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Norwood. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mr. Wilkins passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena.
Joe is survived by a daughter-in-law, Ann Wilkins, Pompano Beach, FL; two granddaughters, Ashley Wilkins and Jeanie Wilkins; a great-grandson, Joseph Macley; a sister, Barbara Owens, Lighthouse Point, FL; and his nieces and nephews Ann, Maryann, Theresa, Jason, Jennifer, Todd and their spouses and families. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Betty in 2003; a son, Tim Wilkins; his two brothers, Andrew and Mark; two sisters, Mary Gadway and Eleanor LaHair, a nephew Michael and Joes companion, Dorothy Osterhout.
Born in Potsdam, NY on August 12, 1931 to the late Francis and Mary Tiernan Wilkins, Joe married Elizabeth Betty Newvine on August 15, 1953. He worked at ALCOA in Massena for 39 years as a furnace operator, retiring in 1993. He was active with St. Andrews Church, along with the Knights of Columbus Council, where he was a 3rd and 4th degree Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion in Norwood and the Moose Lodge in Massena. He enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and enjoyed hunting in his earlier years. He was also a member of the ALCOA 25 year club and likes taking road trips and driving around. Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
