NORWOOD-- Funeral services for 85 year old Ryland R. Gladding, 9 Bernard Ave, Norwood, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Burial will be held in the Raymondville Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mr. Gladding passed away early Sunday morning at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Ryland is survived by a son, Ryland C. Gladding, Louisville; his four daughters, Bonnie and Robert Jessmer Sr., Antwerp; Danielle Gladding, West Chazy and Catherine and Melinda Gladding, both of Norwood. He is also survived by six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and his two brothers, Lindsey Gladding, Massena and Ephriam Gladding Jr., Brasher. Along with his parents and wife, Ryland was pre-deceased by a brother Elson and a sister Mary Gladding.
Born in Raymondville, NY on January 9, 1930 to the late Ephriam and Agnes Bush Gladding, he married Delores M. Hammond on March 8, 1953. Delores just passed away on January 4, 2014. He worked as a custodian for the Potsdam Middle School, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Norwood Vol. Fire Department and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading and flowers. He served with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
