NORWOODFuneral services for 87 year old Robert (Bob) Lee MacDonald, a resident of the United Helpers Riverledge Nursing Home, Ogdensburg, and formerly of Norwood, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Norwood Free Methodist Church with Harry Brabon and Rev. Lee Sweeney co-officiating. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Norwood. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Bob passed away Sunday evening at Riverledge Nursing Home where he had resided since December 17, 2012.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane, Norwood; a son Robert (Pamela) MacDonald, Potsdam; a daughter, Judy (David) Jackman, Massena; three grandchildren, Jennifer White, Thomas MacDonald and Rhiannon Crump; six great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Bob was pre-deceased by his three brothers, Lyle, James and John.
Born in Champion, NY on April 25, 1927 to the late Ernest and Gladys VanCour MacDonald, he attended Potsdam Schools. Bob joined the U.S. Navy in February, 1945 and served with the Seabees in the Pacific Theater. While serving in the military, Bob was also involved in the Bikini Atoll Atomic Bomb Test. Following his discharge from the service, Bob was employed by the Potsdam Paper Corporation. He married Mary Jane Ruger on July 30, 1957. He later was employed by Potsdam Welding and Machine Co. Inc., as the shop superintendent for 23 years and also operated his own business, Bobs Welding in Norwood. He retired and sold his business in 2003. Bob and Mary Jane enjoyed spending most of their free time camping, fishing, hunting and boating in the Adirondacks. Bob was a member of the Rainbow Rod and Gun Club in Degrasse.
