POTSDAM—Graveside services for 77 year old Gene E. Sunderland, a resident of 723 Mayfield Drive, Potsdam, and formerly of Colton, will be held Friday June 27th in Stark Cemetery, South Colton, at 10 a.m. Mr. Sunderland passed away Thursday morning at his home. Gene is survived by his wife Mary of Potsdam; a son, Jeffrey and Melissa Sunderland, Colton; a daughter, Jean and Darrell Whaley Sr., Port Orange, FL; three grandchildren; two brothers, Donald and Judy Sunderland, Hammond and Gregory and Fawn Sunderland, Adams and a sister, Phyllis McIntosh, Adam, NY. Gene was pre-decease by his first wife, Sheila, a brother, Vaughn and an infant sister, Christine. Born in Ogdensburg, NY on March 20, 1937 to the late George and Gay Vert Sunderland, Gene married Sheila Berkley. Sheila passed away on April 12, 2002. He later married Mary E. Gaffney McCarthy on January 12, 2007. Gene worked as a supervisor for various Union Construction jobs. Gene loved restoring cars and building things. He was very handy.
