NORWOOD-- Mrs. Carol M. Stanford of Franklinville, NY; formerly of Norwood, NY and Green Valley, AZ passed away
peacefully, with her sister Meg and Can Carhart in attendance. She passed on December 15, 2013.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 1 2:30 pm at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with a service to be held at 2:30 presided by Rev. Walter Smith. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Norwood.
Carol was born in Brooklyn, NY to Donald Forbes Munro and Margaret L. Munro, later moving to Lyle, NY where Carol attended school. She also attended Broome Tech until her father became ill and they moved to Harrisburg, PA. After the passing of her brother and father, Carol and her mother and sister moved to Norwood, NY the home of her maternal grandparents. Carol and Meg both spent many summers and all the holidays with their grandparents and other relatives. Carol has many friends that she made during childhood and carried on into adulthood. Carol has one nephew,
Trevor J. Munro. Carol married Lloyd W. Stanford on April 4, 1964. Their 50th Wedding Anniversary would have been this year.
Carol's education prepared her for all that she conquered in the business world. She was the executive assistant to James Clements at Potsdam hospital in the 60's; she also joined her husband's business in the Drew Insurance Agency in 1974. During those years Carol demonstrated a talented energy opening a yarn and ceramic shop called the "This and That" creating a positive value to the community. Her generosity was evidenced in many lovely hand made products she crafted and provided to the Ladies Aid Society for their sales. She always donated her time when friends and neighbors needed her. She and Lloyd also enjoyed great times on their boat, "RIVERINE" with friends on the St. Lawrence. Carol also enjoyed collecting miniature trains.
Carol and Lloyd retired to Green Valley, AZ in 1991 where they spent many happy years going to dance clubs to learn and eventually became good country line dancers. Carol's creativity continued in Green Valley where she belonged to a Knitting Guild. The guild made hats, mittens, scarves, and sweaters for the children on the reservations in Arizona. She also became adept at silver-smiting making beautiful silver pieces for her family. You name a
craft and she probably tried it, mastered it, and moved on. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com.
