NORWOOD—Services for 79 year old Altha J. Sawyer, 21 Knapps Station Road, Norfolk and formerly of Norwood, will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Mrs. Sawyer passed away Friday at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Altha is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lloyd “Buzz” Sawyer; her four children, her daughter Terry and her husband Terry Clark, Norfolk and their family, Carrie Clark, Jill and her husband Marty Blair and their son, Jaxson; her daughter Kathy and her husband Ricky Emlaw, Norfolk and their family, Timothy and his wife Cindy Tebo and their children, Aaron and Tyler; Chris Emlaw and fiancé Amy Fountain and their children, Makenzi and Ryan; Mathew Planty and his children, Cody, Jake and Madison; her daughter Tammy and her husband Larry Clark, Norwood and their family, Chelsea and Jared, Nicholas and Maila, Troy Clark and Shelly, their children, Isiah and Noah; Shawn Clark and his children, Brytney and Alexis; Jason Clark and Maria his children, Caitlin and Adriel; her son Thomas and his wife Mitzi Sawyer, Raymondville and their family, Jessica and fiancé Tylor, and TJ. She is also survived by her brothers Gerald Reed, Norwood; William and Charlene Reed, Norfolk and her sister Helen Butchino, Potsdam. Altha is pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers, Lloyd and Guy Reed Jr., her sisters, Marion Newtown and Sally Reed and her granddaughter Heather Planty. Born in Parishville on March 26, 1935 to the late Guy E. and Mayfred Randall Reed Sr., Altha married Lloyd “Buzz” Sawyer on November 12, 1955. She worked for Breckenridge Oil Company in Potsdam for several years and later worked as a sales clerk at Royce Clothing store in Norwood. Altha was an advisor of the Junior Bowling League, and was a member of the Norwood Fireman’s Women’s Axillary. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, crocheting, and many other crafts as well as traveling and attending NASCAR racing and bluegrass music. Most of all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. Memorial donations can be made to the Norfolk and Potsdam Rescue Squads.
