NORWOODGraveside services for 93 year old Beatrice M. Woodward, will be held in the spring in the Riverside Cemetery in Norwood. There will be no calling hours at this time. Mrs. Woodward passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton.
Beatrice or Bea as she was affectionately known as, is survived by her two sons, Thomas and Janice Woodward and Craig and Vicki Woodward, both of Norwood; 6 grandchildren, James "Jimmy" Fetterly; Denise Stockwell, Robert Fetterly, Sarah Woodward, Justin Woodward, Ashley Woodward, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert in 1969; a daughter, Bonnie Woodward Fetterly; a son, Brian Woodward, a grand-daughter and her brother, J. Robert Mikel.
Born in Buffalo, NY on January 27, 1920 to the late Julius and Charlotte Austin Minkel, she received a Bachelors Degree in 1940 from Buffalo State. She married Robert Woodward on May 5, 1945 and they moved to Norwood. Bea has worked at various jobs and organizations throughout her lifetime, from working in the Chemistry Lab at the Dupont Rayon Plant in Niagara Falls to working as a counselor for the Department of Education in Malone, where she retired from in 1982. Bea even was a non-traditional student, receiving her Masters Degree from St. Lawrence University in 1971. Bea was very active in several service organizations, including the Golden Agers, Zonta Club, AARP, 55 ALIVE, SOAR and TRIAD. The pinnacle of her accomplishments, was in 2005 when Bea received the Agent of Change Award from the AAUW (American Association of University Women) honoring a St. Lawrence County Women for her work. She was a role model and mentor to many individuals. By Beas example of commitment, thorough attention of detail and ability to work with others, she energized every job and organization in which Bea was associated with. In her spare time, she loved to travel, traveling all over the world, gardening and bowling. Memorial Donations in Beas memory can be made to the Hale Cemetery Assoc., Box 62, Norwood, NY, 13668.
