Obituary of Carl Parrotte

COLTON—Funeral services for 86 year old Carl Parrotte, 4488 State Route 56, Colton, will be held Saturday November 16th at 1:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Colton with Rev. Lee Sweeney and Elder Ken Ashley presiding. Burial will take place Monday November 18th in the Gerald B.H. Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery. Mr. Parrotte passed away at a place near and dear to his heart, his camp in Conifer. Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn, Colton; his son, Brian and Jill Parrotte, South Colton; his daughters, Vera and Howard Ennis, New Hartford, NY; Linda and John Sheeran, Balston Spa NY; Gay “Gail” Parrotte, Cordova, Tennessee; his 3 grandchildren, Jim, Katie and Carrie Sheeran. Carl is also survived by his brother, Ken Parrotte, Beaver Dams, NY; his sisters, Gene Parrotte, Elmira and Bernice Parrotte, Syracuse. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Charles, George and Jim and his sister Eleanor. Carl was born on June 8, 1927 to Walter “Polly” and Dessa Bryington Parrotte. He left school and joined the United States Navy in 1944. Carl was a member of the Plank Crew on the USS Brinkley Bass DD-887 Destroyer in which he served on. Upon his Honorable Discharge, Carl finished his schooling and he married Carolyn Silliman on September 29, 1951. Carl worked as a Dry-kiln operator, starting with Haywood Wakefield in Conifer and then also working for the Draper Corporation in Tupper Lake and finally Elliott’s Hardwood in Potsdam. Carl also worked as a Postal Carrier and was currently working for Evans & White Ace Hardware in Potsdam, repairing screens and windows. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Colton, a member and past Master for 5 years of the High Falls Masonic Lodge in Colton, a past member of Conifer Dead Creek Club and the Stillwater Club. He was currently a member of the “Townies” Hunting Club in Conifer. Carl enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing and enjoying the fellowship of his friends at camp. He enjoyed re-canvasing canoes, attending reunions with his U.S. Navy peers, attending Airshows and Antique Car Shows and his collection of rifles and pistols. He was an avid Syracuse Orange fan and like woodworking. He was noted as the “best” coffee maker and he also enjoyed chewing on an occasional cigar. Most of all, Carl enjoyed spending time with his family. The family would like to thank the Piercefield Volunteer Fire Department, the NYS DEC, the Forest Rangers, the State Police, the K-9 units and all of the people of Conifer for their help and concern for Carl during this most difficult time.
