Obituary of Berton N. Robert

POTSDAM—Funeral services with military honors for 86 year old Berton N. “Peanut” Robert, 1694 County Route 35, Potsdam, will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton, with Rev. Andrew Amyot presiding. Burial for both Peanut and his late wife, Carole, who passed away on July 12, 2013 will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Colton. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Friday from 12 noon until the time of the funeral. Mr. Robert passed away early Saturday morning at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Peanut is survived by a son, Terrance and Rhonda Robert, Morley; a step-son, Allen and Lisa Curry, Hopkinton; a step-daughter, Suzanne and Kenneth Williams, Fort Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Robert, Newton Falls; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Peanut is also survived by a brother George and Bernice Robert, Colton; two sisters, Ginger and Ronald Guyett, Canton and Grace Hawley, Colton as well as several nieces and nephews. Peanut was pre-deceased by his first wife, Barbara Collins, a son, Thomas and a brother, Paul Robert. Born in Pyrites on January 30, 1927 to the late Bert J. and Edith Paro Robert, Peanut falsified information to enlist into the U.S. Army at the age of 17 after his family found out that his brother George, was listed as missing in action. After he served his term, Peanut continued and finished his education and married the late Barbara H. Collins in May of 1948. Barbara passed away in 1974. He later married Carole D. Myers Curry on August 24, 1989, who just passed recently. He worked in the construction industry for many years, working for Local 277 out of Watertown. He was also self-employed, owning Hannawa Trucking. He was a life member of the Canton VFW and a member of the Newtown Falls Sportsman Club. Peanut enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, tending to his gardens and his lawn and working with wood, especially making cabinets. He loved following his children and grandchildren around, enjoying all of the activities they participated in.
