COLTON—David Paul Fayette, age 80, Colton, NY, passed away at his winter home in Fort Myers, FL on March 11, 2013 following a valiant fight against cancer. Born on July 16, 1932 in Massena, NY, son of Martin F. and Beulah (Demers) Fayette, he graduated from the Massena High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951-1955. During this time he successfully flew 30 combat missions as a B-29 Tail Gunner. After he was honorably discharged, David worked for Lewis-Dickerson Associated in Massena. In 1963 he started at General Motors Massena Plant as a Design Engineer. He held several positions in the Engineering Department, including Superintendent Plant Engineer, retiring in September of 1987. He was a lifetime member of the Massena VFW Post 1143. On May 20, 1956 he married Mary Collins and she survives. Among his other survivors are six children: Michael Fayette, Alexandria Bay, NY; Marcia Bradley, Peoria, AZ; Marilyn Fayette, Colton; Marylou Lynch, Watertown; Martin (April) Fayette, Kennesaw, GA; Marlene (James) Cowgill, Fort Lauderdale, FL. He had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Martin (Jacqueline) Fayette, Massena and one sister, Avis McGuiggan, Charlottesville, VA. David was an avid woodworker. He built many fine pieces of furniture before turning his talents to creating beautiful intarsia pieces, winning awards in various local art shows. A mass of Christian Burial will be held June 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Colton with Rev. Msgr. Robert Aucoin presiding. Interment will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Colton.
