COLTONGraveside services for 57 year old Sally M. Long, 5416 State Highway 56, Potsdam, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Hermon Cemetery with Pastor Tom Chappell presiding. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mrs. Long passed away Wednesday at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sally is survived by her mother, Betty Fountain, South Colton; her fiancé Thomas Dan McKinley, Colton; her two sons, Patrick and Mandy Long, South Colton and Major McKinley, at home; her two daughters, Jenny and Scott Tower, Tupper Lake and Kylie McKinley, at home. Sally is also survived by three brothers, Dale and Helen Fountain, Randy Fountain and Larry Fountain, all of South Colton; her two sisters, Judy and Gene Aldous, Colton and Shelly Brennan, Cazenovia, NY and her four beloved grandchildren, Karrie and Jonathan Long, South Colton and Sadie and John Tower, Tupper Lake and several nieces and nephews. Sally was pre-deceased by her father, Lawrence Fountain and her grandparents, Arthur and Grace Green and Basil and Elsie Fountain.
Born in Canton on September 15, 1955 to Lawrence and Betty Green Fountain, Sally grew up in the Colton area and graduated from the Colton-Pierrepont Central School in 1973. After graduation, she was employed by several local taverns as a bartender before becoming assistant manager of the Elks Club in Potsdam, where she was presently employed. A marriage to John R. Long on April 28, 1977 ended in divorce. Sally was a member of the BPOE #2074 Elks Club in Potsdam and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 262, Colton. Sally enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing crafts and especially enjoyed crossword puzzles and recipes. She had a love of the outdoors and loved spending time with her family. Her new found love was keeping up with new technology, enjoying her IPAD. Memorial Donations can be made to the Colton Rescue Squad.
