Peter R. Vogt posted a condolence
Please accept my heartfelt condolences in the passing of Perry, what most of us Marines called Gary back in the day. I served with him from welding school and 8th Engineer Support Bn. at Camp Lejeune in 1965 through a tour and two 6-month extensions with 1st Engineer Bn. in Vietnam ('66-'68). We lost touch after we were discharged in 1969, but I figured he had returned to the North Country. Gary was older than most of us who were just out of high school, so we looked to him for guidance and leadership. He was as much a mentor as a friend. I wish we had kept in touch. This morning I was looking at an old photo album from those days, don't ask me why, and thought I'd see if I could find Gary on the Internet, the only Marine from back then whose full name I never forgot. It was a shock when I saw the obituary pop up. I share your sorrow. He was a fine man, a loyal friend and a heck of a Marine. I fondly remember his friendship and our shared experiences in the Corps. Best wishes---Peter Vogt.

I worked with Gary for 5 years at Norfolk Paper Company. He was very willing to share his knowledge of layout work and welding. He taught me many things you cannot learn at school along with many tricks of the trade. He instilled work ethic and life lessons in me. I often think of him at work and at home. I offer my deepest symphany.

My heartfelt condolences to the Perry Family. Gary and I were in school together.
I will remember him both as the good-natured youth he was then, and the upstanding man, husband and father he became. Rest in peace, Gary.
