CHASE MILLS—Funeral services for 87 year old Richard J. Gero, a resident of the Highland Nursing Home, Massena, and formerly of Chase Mills, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation in Norfolk with Rev. Andrew Amyot presiding. A spring burial will be held in the Visitation Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. Mr. Gero passed away Tuesday evening at the Highland Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Gero is survived by four sons, Francis and Beatrice Gero, Massena; Rudolph Gero, Monterey, MA; Harold and Beth Gero, Norfolk; John and Jean Gero, Hopewell Junction, NY; a foster son, Don and Doreen Carron, Meriden, Conn.; his two daughters, Beverly and Vernon Malark, Cadyville, NY and Deborah and Bernard Safford, Brasher Falls. Richard is also survived by eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his two sisters, Theresa Favreau, Westville and Bernadette Bartlet, Englewood, FL. Mr. Gero was pre-deceased by his brothers, Leo, Noah and Edward and his sisters Leona Bertrand and Helen Quirk. Born in Mooers Forks, NY on June 30, 1924 to the late Dolph and Mary LaFountain Gero, he married Mildred J. Johnson on August 12, 1944. Mildred passed away on January 30, 2006. Richard worked at ALCOA in Massena as a crane operator for 34 years, retiring in 1986. Richard was a member of the Church of the Visitation and St. Ann’s in Mooers Forks for many years and the ALCOA 25 year club. Mr. Gero enjoyed cutting wood, gardening and working at his hobby farm. He enjoyed spending the winters in Florida and spending time with his family. Memorial Donations can be made to the Highland Nursing Home in Massena.
