NORFOLKCalling hours for 79 year old Alex M. Shiney Sabad, 17 East High Street, will be held Monday from 4-6pm at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk . He passed away peacefully early Friday morning at home with his family by his side after a 14 year battle with cancer.
Shiney is survived by his wife, Beverly, Norfolk; his son, Michael and Maria Sabad, Knoxville, Tennessee; his two daughters, Joanne and Robert Frank, Mission Viejo, CA and Debbie and Michael Caskinette, Norfolk; four grandchildren, Michael Caskinette, Marissa Caskinette, Cheyenne Sabad and Alie Mickle. Shiney is also survived by a brother, Joseph and Vickie Sabad, Oregon; his sister, Loretta Regan, Norwood and several nieces and nephews. Shiney was pre-deceased by his brothers, John, George, Frank, James and his sisters Rosie Page, Bessie Woodward and Irene Oakes.
Born in Norfolk on June 25, 1932 to the late George and Rose Vari Sabad, Shiney married Beverly Dully on August 14, 1956. Along with his wife, he was the owner and operator of Sabads Restaurant in Norfolk for 43 years, retiring in 1998. Shiney was a member of the Norfolk Housing Authority, the St. Regis Hunting Club, the Norfolk American Legion and was an avid golfer and bowler. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
