NORWOODThere will be no calling hours or services for 87 year old Dorothy M. Colby, 11 Ashley Street, Norwood. Mrs. Colby passed away early Thursday morning at her home. Mrs. Colby is survived by her three sons, Philip and Christine Colby; Larry and Kyle Colby and Dale and Rhonda Colby, all of Norwood. Dorothy has six grandchildren, Shawna and husband Joseph Fogarty and great-granddaughter Johanna, Norfolk; Brook of Canton, Jennifer Colby of Norwood; Darren and wife Renee and great-granddaughter Fynli, West Virginia; Brandon Colby, North Carolina; Michael and wife Jessica Colby and great-grandson Colden, Potsdam. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Blanchard, Hannawa Falls and her sister-in-law, Bertha LaTrilla, Potsdam and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband and three brothers, Robert, Floyd and Clarence.
Born in Parishville on April 29, 1924 to the late William and Nora Remington Lavine, she married Earl Colby on July 27, 1942. He passed away on June 9, 1978. Dorothy worked for 30 years, having worked at Woolworths, 10 years at Alcoa, the Norwood Grade School and retired from Sperlings Furniture Store in Potsdam as the credit manager. She was a member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church and enjoyed working at the church and was secretary of the Womens Guild. She did volunteer work at Canton-Potsdam Hospital and was a member of the Norwood Golden Agers, the Red Hat Society, LIFT organization, the Home Bureau and was a past member of the Parishville Hilltoppers and the Norfolk Jolly Agers. She enjoyed life and was very proud of her family and grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed preserving memories by scrapbooking, sewing, doing crafts, knitting, solving word puzzles and playing cards with family. She loved her flower garden.
